Our approach

Building Trust With Each Project

We understand how important trust is in a contractor / client relationship. Our clients rely on us to serve on their behalf, ethically and responsibly. We have a track record extending back more than ten years, a record of integrity, expertise and customer satisfaction. Our commitment to this is proven by the fact that returning clients account for more than half our business every year. Our clients value the relationship we build with them and recognize our commitment to quality, budget and schedule. Clients who work with us for one project return to UCC for all their future construction needs.

Technology - Blending Old and New

While our company is well-established, we seek out the latest technological advancements to incorporate into our business processes. Innovations, PDA-based safety inspection systems and web cams allow us to communicate more effectively and improve our quality and efficiency. Our old-world philosophy of customer service does not preclude us from leveraging new-age technology to constantly improve what we do. The construction industry is an exciting arena of new technologies and methodologies and we remain at the front of those advancements to consistently improve our performance.

Making Safety the Normal Way of Doing Business

UCC employees take our own job site safety very seriously; the standards we require of our employees and subcontractors frequently exceed official requirements. Through training, monitoring and motivation we are making safety the normal way of doing business at all UCC job sites, and our safety program is considered one of the best in in the construction field.

Our internal safety committee recommended various initiatives to improve jobsite safety well above official standards. Some of the committee's initiatives which have been implemented include a "three strikes and you're out" rule for significant safety violations, a three meter rule on fall protection and protection requirements for excavations two meters deep or more.

Every UCC site superintendent has received 30-Hour Training, is qualified in first aid and CPR. Subcontractors who work on our projects are now required to perform internal inspections of tools, equipment and personal protective gear. This requirement will ensure that all workers on our job sites are furnished with adequate mechanical safeguards and personal protective equipment.

We have also implemented a program for tracking safety inspections at its various job sites. Superintendents and project managers have been equipped with Personal Data Assistants, which they use to document inspection results and corrective actions. These results are transmitted by email to keep employees at all levels informed and involved in the safety process, and inspection reports are discussed in every company staff meeting. These reports also help subcontractors to detect trends that could represent systems or processes requiring training or modification.

Through the use of the latest technologies, aggressive employee training and the implementation of enforceable standards for employees and subcontractors, we have created a well working safety program. Rather than simply focusing on meeting official standards, we have mobilized a comprehensive safety program designed to identify and correct potential hazards before they result in damage to property or personal injury or death to any workers, and we are taking our message of "making safety the normal way of doing business" to construction on all our job sites.

In addition, UCC have employed in the past a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) and several more professionals who have earned the Green Advantage Commercial Environmental Certification, to facilitate the certification process on any project where LEED was implemented. By adding a LEED AP to the roster of the company's construction professionals, UCC has demonstrated its commitment to ensuring that environmental responsibility, along with the job site safety, legal and ethical business practices, emphasis on quality construction and focus on budget and schedule, is offered on every project we build.
